Now that it is finally October, cider mills have begun opening up and serving the delicious fall treats we all love. From donuts, to apple pies and apple cider, there is surely a fall treat for everyone to enjoy. Not pumpkin spice? No problem! Many cider mills produce different kinds of donuts including traditional cinnamon sugar, plain, powdered, and even the fall favorite pumpkin spice.
Apple pie is by far my favorite, and I look forward to picking apples every year with my family,
says a 12th grader at West Bloomfield High School. Cider mills in the area offer various types of locally grown produce depending on the season, and the public is lucky enough to have the opportunity to pick some when the time is right. Corn, Raspberries, and different kinds of apple are among the most popular.
Yates Cider Mill in Rochester Hills, Michigan, has been operating on water power since 1863 and continues to produce the same cider and donuts for generations. They stay open from sunrise to sunset, but be sure to get there early as their line is often out the door! Many walk the 3/4 mile trail after enjoying their treats to see the fall colors. Families all around make visiting cider mills a fall tradition, and I know I will be making the trip out to Yates to enjoy their delicious donuts for sure!
